Just got engaged? Congratulations! Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, and we know that looking and feeling your best is a top priority. While it is okay to enhance your beauty and overall self-care routine leading up to your special day, we've compiled a list of DO practices you should embrace and DON'Ts you should avoid. Here is our Wedding Wellness Guide:
Do's:
DO Start a Skincare Routine Early
Healthy skin is the foundation of any bridal look. Start a consistent skincare routine at least six months before your wedding. Focus on cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and using hats / all natural sunscreen to keep your skin in top shape. If you are new to skincare and completely lost, consulting a dermatologist is a great first step. They are the professionals who will help address specific concerns like acne or hyperpigmentation.
DO Wax or Thread a Week Before
Whether it’s your eyebrows, upper lip, or bikini line, waxing or threading should be done about a week prior to avoid redness, bumps, or irritation on the big day. Different salons will use different methods and/or ingredients, so it is always recommended to also trial any waxing well in advance to know what gives your skin the best results.
DO Fuel Your Body
Planning a wedding can be stressful, but it's crucial to provide your body with the necessary nutrients. Consuming foods your body is accustomed to can help prevent unwanted reactions. Staying hydrated is also vital for maintaining glowing skin and overall health. Make sure to drink plenty of water in the weeks before your wedding to keep your skin looking plump and radiant. This will not only enhance your appearance but also boost how you feel!
DO Find a Routine that Works for You
By now, you’re likely realizing the significance of routines and consistency—not only for skincare but also for self-care. Are you taking a walk after work to unwind from the day? Are you experimenting with various yoga videos at home to build strength or find a peaceful moment? Or perhaps you're joining an exercise class to elevate your heart rate? Whatever method suits your self-care needs, aim to make it a regular part of your routine. It's perfectly normal to have days when time is scarce, and that's okay! When you feel your best, your natural beauty radiates even more.
Don'ts:
Don't Try New Skin Care
In the month before your wedding day, it is crucial to stick to your usual skincare routine. Avoid trying anything new, such as facials, derma planing, or spray tans. Introducing new products or treatments may cause unexpected reactions or breakouts.
Don't Get a Spray Tan the Week of the Wedding
Often, we see those who spray tan too close to the wedding day appear orange in photos compared to their spouse and wedding party. When you apply a spray tan, you are changing the hue of your skin tone to an orange hue (hence the "tan"). Orange is not a natural undertone in human skin. If you do not match the hue of your spouse or others in your wedding party, it can not only make you stand out, but is not editable in post. If you insist on getting a spray tan for your big day, we recommend starting with a trial well before the wedding. If you are pleased with the results of the trial, plan to get your spray tan a week before your big day. Please avoid the 3 days prior as we've seen wedding gowns and tuxes abosrob the dye.
Don't Get a Massage Within Three Days of the Wedding
When you get a massage, your body releases toxins as your muscles relax and become more flexible. This process can sometimes leave you feeling sore or fatigued afterward. Combine that with the natural stress of wedding planning and anticopation of the big day, and it might not be the best mix leading up to your big day. That’s why we recommend scheduling any massages at least a week before your wedding.
*How your body responds may depend on how often you receive massages. Listen to your body, you know it best!
Don't Fall for Social Media Trends
We all love a good social media recipe or beauty influencer. Found a hair color on Pinterest that you adore? Consider saving it for after your wedding day! Tempted by an influencer's meal plan that worked wonders for them? It might be effective, but it's best not to take chances. In the month leading up to your wedding, it's crucial to maintain the routine and wellness practices you've been following. Others might suggest they know what's best for you with results to prove it, but only you truly understand your body.
Ultimately, DO what makes YOU feel best!
With so much anticipation and excitement surrounding your wedding day, it's natural to want to do everything to look and feel your best. We hope the tips listed above are helpful to you as you navigate through this incredible time. This monumental occasion is not just about the union of two people in love; it is also a celebration of your unique style, personality, and the journey that has brought you to this pivotal moment. You're going to feel fabulous!
